Red, round selection handles appear on the shapes where they are connected, and a diamond displays on the connector indicating that the two shapes are connected and will remain connected when you move them on a slide. The three types of connectors — (from top to bottom) elbow, straight, and curved.

While standard text boxes serve their purposes, modifying the plain text in your PowerPoint presentations can add some compelling visual flair. While you can't insert a curved text box in PowerPoint, you can use the Text Effects feature to change the way in which text appears inside of a standard text box. Once you've curved your text, you can then resize and rotate the box to fine-tune the curvature of its contents.

Select the slide on which you want to insert the curved text box.

Click the 'Text' icon in the Home group on the ribbon to load the Text tool.

Click and drag your mouse pointer at the location on the slide where you want to insert your text box, and then enter your text.

Highlight the text in your text box, and then click the 'Format' tab on the ribbon. The Format tab is located immediately to the right of the Home tab.

Click the 'Text Effects' button under the Text Styles header in the Format group.

Select 'Transform' on the Text Effects drop-down menu, and then click the curved path you want your text to follow.

Tips

  • Once you've curved your text, you can modify the size of the text box to adjust the curvature. To change the size of the text box, select the text box, and then click and drag one of the sizing circles or squares that appear around its edge.
  • To rotate curve text, select the text box, and then click and drag the rotation icon that appears at the top of the text box.
